The Star Gate network was active, but not all who used it came in peace. Captain Elena Vasquez stood on the bridge of the Odyssey, watching a fleet of unknown ships emerge from the gate.

"Command, this is Vasquez. We have incoming hostiles."

"Copy, Odyssey. Identify them."

The Luminari leader appeared beside her. "They are the Void. They destroyed our home world. They must not enter the network."

Elena's jaw tightened. "Then we stop them."

The Odyssey fired, its cannons blazing. The Void ships returned fire, their weapons tearing through space.

"Call for reinforcements," Elena ordered.

The signal went out through the gate network. Ships arrived-from the colony, from Andromeda, from the galaxy of light.

The Void fleet wavered, then scattered.

"Command, the enemy is retreating."

"Copy, Odyssey. Good work. Come home."

Elena turned the ship toward the gate, the stars streaking past.

The network was safe.

But she knew the Void would return.

And she would be ready. Always.
